--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A power outage such as North America hasn't seen in almost 40 years has crippled huge areas of Canada and the United States. Industry, government and transportation have ground to a complete halt.

NAC Announcement here - http://www.nac.net/announcements.asp?Action=View&ID=28

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the afternoon of August 14th, a major northeastern power grid (Niagara-Mohawk) suffered an overload. The grid provides power for much of the northeastern US and parts of Canada. It is thought that the outage is not a terrorist act.
Our network in Parsippany still has power, and our nodes in Newark and Manhattan are presently running on backup generator. Because this is a significant and widespread outage, it is possible that telephone services which are not under our control may not be functional.

It is not known at present how long the outage will last. At present, we anticipate no significant interruption of our service.

I am sending this announcement out so that you might prepare for the worst. Inform your clients asap of a possibe outage, due to the above extraordinary situation.

This could get very serious.

If anyone has news links, please post them here.

It seems the situation is under control and we have thankfully not been affected. :)
