As part of our commitment to providing the best possible service we can to our clients we will be upgrading the server hardware that the Aspen server is running on over the the weekend of the 19th and 20th April 2008

The current servers hardware is getting long in the tooth,

The current servers specs are:

Dual Xeon 2.8 CPU's
2Gb Ram
2 x 160Gb SATA I drives
100Mbit uplink port

And is running the now very outdated RedHat 3.0 Enterprise Operating System

The new servers specifications are:

Dual Quad Core Xeon 5335 CPU's (that equates to 8cpu's)
4GB ECC DDR2 Ram
2 x 250Gb SATA II drives
1000Mbit uplink port

The new server will be running the latest Centos5 operating system along with the latest CPanel, PHP and perl versions.

We will also be moving the server to Seattle, which will provide faster ping times for almost all Australian users as there is less hops and different routing involved.

This upgrade is a major event for this server and the outcome of the upgrade will offer a significant improvement to load times of sites on the server, and will also remove the ongoing load issues with email delivery and delays and high loads on Mail Scanner that the server has suffered in the past.

This upgrade will mean all sites and all resellers will be assigned new IP addresses to their accounts and name servers.

We will be emailing out details on this with further information starting tomorrow and will keep all clients up-to-date on this via this post in the forums and also by sending out announcements via the help desk

If anyone has any queries relating to this major upgrade please let us know.

I am pleased to announce that the new server will actually be faster than i had originally announced.

The cpu's are actually quad core xeon "harpertown" E5430 cpus rather than the 5335's i had originally announced

The server is online and im currently configuring and load balancing it

If anyone would like to get an idea of ping speeds you can ping the new root IP 67.228.195.115

Just a reminder to all clients on the Aspen server that the migration for this server to the new hardware will be taking place over this weekend, 19th and 20th April. Resellers with private nameservers and dedicated IPs will be moved first followed by multi-domain and single site hosting clients.

The process will be to migrate the clients sites, redirect traffic via the dns zone from the old server to the new server, then we will open a ticket in the helpdesk advising of the IP changes (for resellers with dedicated IPs) and send out new welcome emails with updated information for accessing the new server.

If you have any concerns please notify us via a ticket in the helpdesk. I can adjust the migration schedule to suit if you require the migration to occur during a specific time window.

The server migration process has been completed and all sites are now running from the new server

The old server will remain online until the 30th April and people can access using the old IP 70.84.195.18 so for example if you need to ftp into the old server use this IP with your cpanel username and pass.

Webmail can be accessed on the old server via http://70.84.195.18/webmail

Please check over your sites and ensure they are workign correctly and that there are no issues as once the old server is turned off no data will be retrievable form it

If anyone has any queries or problems please open a ticket at the helpdesk
