I apologize for the interuption to service on hotham this morning.
We have continual monitoring of all services but we only have alerts to staff set up if ping goes down (whole server) In this case HTTP. FTP SSH and POP were down but the server was still active
We are discussing our setup and are inclined to change our set up so that alerts to staff are generated when HTTP goes down or if HTTP and FTP go down
Either way this incident has resulted in an immediate review of our monitoring and alerts in the endeavour of seeing such a situation does not reoccur.
