Note: Before beginning, you will need a static (dedicated) IP for the domain requiring SSL. You will need to purchase a batch of 10 dedicated IP addresses before you can create the domain that requires the SSL certificate. Contact the helpdesk to order them.

If you want to install an SSL certificate on your domain that you setup your Alpine Hosting reseller account with, then you already have the dedicated IP address for that domain name. You will then not need to purchase a batch of 10 from the above link.

You will also need SSL access in your WHM. Contact us and we'll activate this feature for you. This feature is not activated by default.

--------------------------------

1. Go to WHM and click the "Generate an SSL Certifcate and Signing Request" link. Fill out the form. This will give you a

RSA PRIVATE KEY which you keep

and a

"CSR" - CERTIFICATE REQUEST key

Note: Use only alphanumeric characters in all the fields.
Note: It's very specific about the "Host to make cert for". (yourchoicehere.com)

Common ones people choose: yourdomain.com
www.yourdomain.com
secure.yourdomain.com
ssl.yourdomain.com

2. Email will be sent from WHM to you. Go to your SSL certificate supplier and fill out their cert form. They will require your "CSR"

Note: Use only alphanumeric characters in all the fields.

Web Server Type: "Apache + Mod ssl"

Note: When copying your CSR, be sure to include the "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- and -----END CERTIFICATE

REQUEST-----" lines, but nothing before or after.

3. Wait for the emails to get to you. READ them carefully, and click on what needs to be clicked.

4. Wait for cert to arrive in e-mail.

5. Go to WHM and click the "Install an SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain " link. Paste the certificate from the e-mail's
sourcecode in, making sure there is nothing above or below the certificate code.

6. Type in the domain that the certificate is for in the domain textbox, the username for that account in the user box, and then the IP address for that account.

7. Paste the RSA PRIVATE KEY you copied from the sourcecode of the e-mail which WHM sent after filling out the cert. & signing request form. Make sure it's the key and not the Cert Signing Request code.

8. Hit the submit button and wait about 5 minutes to make sure all was well. (Apache has to restart.)

9. Go to https://yourchoicehere.com and see if it works!

I take it that each domain must have a unique IP address! Is there anything else in Web host Manager that we should do first in regard to a domain that has already been set up without its own IP address?

Dave

You guessed correctly.

If your installing a domain for your own main reseller site then you can your second nameserver IP number to install the certificate on.

If its for clients sites you will need to request an IP for it. When you install the certificate the IP's for the site will automatically swap over in WHM.
