The Sydney Datacentre we will be performing extensive hardware maintenance, upgrades and datacenter transfers on Monday, 27 November 2006. This unfortunately will have to result in some perhaps substantial downtime -- we're hoping under two hours -- although it could possibly be up to eight in some limited circumstances. Because of the downtime impact of this maintenance, they plan to perform it at approximately 2AM AEDST (Sydney time)
It is our view that the benefits of the upgrades will substantially outweigh the inconvenience of the resultant downtime. Following the completion of the work, we will be utilising a substantially expanded and more robust network. Carriers will be Telstra, MCI/Verizon, Optus, Asia Netcom, and PIPE Networks. The server will be hosted in a much improved datacenter environment, and we will also be able to take advantage of improved routing infrastructure.
There are no absolutely required actions on the part of any users, however, as with any major upgrade, we highly recommend that users conduct and download full backups of their site(s) for safekeeping prior to the upgrades/transfers, in all cases that it is practical to do so
